Why does body hair grow right back after you cut it?

My head hair, continues to grow no matter what. But my body hair, i.e...chest, back, pubic, gets to a certain lenght than stops growing. But when I cut it, it starts growing until it reaches that length again. What's up with that?

It's your bodies natural defense against the cold. It grows to a length that the body deems well enough to protect from the cold and stops. If you don't want hair get it waxed or cut it often.

We weren't meant to shave. That's a social thing. Kinda' makes you wonder what we'd look like ! (Cousin It ?)

I guess it is a throwback to when we needed unsightly hair everywhere. I am not sure why we EVER needed great bushes of hair...under our arms, why there is still such a thing as a unibrow or why women need to worry about facial hair. I wish there was a safe pill to take that would make it fall out and stay out. Damn Nair people are making a fortune!

One theory is that Our hair adapts to different temperatures.

but there are several problems with this theory

such as the explanation of balding....

Then again it depend on the amount of androgens a person has like testosterone

Lack of keratin

or old age

and any other diseases.

So I am not certain

Our body hair protects our skin from water dust ext. But Plants have hairs too

called tricomes

that can trap and kill insects and help protect them from heat(weather).

So whatever reason it is I would say its to protect us Since it only grows to a certain extent

Good question by the way star for you!

:)
